Port Victoria Weekend 6th to 9th March
Hi Everyone,
The upcoming Port Victoria Weekend is fast approaching and we need to start to get an idea of who will be attending and what boats WABSA members will be bringing.
This will be a special long weekend as it is the Port Victoria and Wauraltee 150th Celebration. The local Progress Society is organizing the event with the main activities taking place on the Port Victoria oval and water events around the jetty.
There will be two tall ships attending and providing paid day trips, the Soren Larsen & One & All, both sailing into Port Victoria on Friday 6th March. Some members from the Cruising Yacht Club of SA and the Port Adelaide Sailing Club will also be attending the event. For those of us that arrive early there may be an opportunity for us to join in the flotilla as the tall ships arrive.
The oval is where the majority of the public will be congregating. There will be food & coffee vans there, as well as marquees occupied by local craft & produce, a huge sandpit for the kids & continuous live music. If you like horses there will be an opportunity to take a ride in a cart pulled by a Clydesdale.
For WBASA members, there will be no circumnavigation of Wardang Island, as we will not have exclusive support from the Royal Volunteer Coastal Patrol. The organizers have asked us to put some of our boats on display at the oval alongside our club marquee which we intend to sell merchandise from along with recruiting new members. I am not sure of the logistics yet but we have also been asked to have some of our boats on the water for a possible flotilla.
The 150th event is on Saturday 7th March and Sunday 8th March which leaves Monday free for us to either go down to Wauraltee Beach or out to the northern end of Wardang Island, weather permitting.
My thoughts were to leave some of the wooden boats on display and use the rest for the boating activities which still need to be finalized.
It will be the usual Friday night at Richards for a B.Y.O. BBQ and briefing, Saturday night we could possibly go to the oval for dinner, Sunday takeaway pizza from the local pub. For those staying Monday night we could head off to one of the local pubs.
Some of our members have already booked accommodation at the local Port Victoria Caravan Park and Holiday Rental houses. Being a long weekend you will need to be quick if you need to book accommodation. Richard Kretschmer and Chris Quantrill have asked me to look after his house as far as availability of rooms or camping around the house, so please contact me in this regard.
I look forward to hearing from those who are attending by registering – click here to register now.
As further information comes to hand I will be able to give you a more detailed plan.
