WBASA – FEBRUARY 2026 CLASSIC BOAT DAY

The February Classic Boat Day is to be on Thursday the 19th and will be mainly for trailerable boats,

Larger boats are welcome to join as well. It will be a Coorong event from Mundoo Channel.

The event manager for this day is Stephen Conway, mobile 0401 125 035, email, editor@wbasa.au.

For trailerable boats we will meet up in the morning and launch from the Mundoo Channel boat ramp.

If you are going to participate please register via the online form   Click here now to register.

The plan is to be at the Mundoo Channel boat ramp, at around 10.00 for launching and then be under way at around 10.30am and head down the Mundoo Channel into the Coorong. We should have time to cruise up towards Godfrey’s Landing and stop for a while for morning tea, this is a trip of about 7 km’s. According to Willy Weather we will be on a rising tide from just after 11.00am until high tide at 3.45pm so we should not be bothered by our boats getting stranded!

The idea is to have a picnic lunch at Geoff Byrne’s Coorong Shack at about 1.00pm

with everything self catered  and possibly taking a walk towards the Mouth – with boats departing about 2.30  pm, distance back to the Mundoo Boat Ramp is about 3 kms.

The arrangements above also mean that if people have boats moored around Goolwa and want to participate they can come into the Coorong from the Goolwa Barrage, or if needed launch at Beacon 19. Please let Stephen know if that is your plan.

Stephen will keep an eye on the weather forecast and keep those people who have registered  an interest to attend informed of any changes to the program on the day prior. If you do not register then you cant be included in any updates.

The intention is to have a self catered picnic lunch at Geoff Byrne’s historical Coorong Shack, located just upstream of the River Mouth, at about 1.00pm. We hope Geoff can join us, but if not we will still be able to sit in the shade of the verandah.

As above please bring along everything you need as there is no shop along the Coorong.

Be mindful that you will be in tidal waters and as the skipper you are responsible for having all safety equipment as enforced by Marine Safety SA for this location and conditions. A two way radio is also helpful at these events, WBASA uses UHF channel 27. The waters of the Coorong are very clear and very reflective, sunscreen, hats etc are a must for a day out in this wonderful waterway, particularly in Summer!

These WBASA CBD’s are a great way to get your boat out of the shed, enjoy good company of mix with like minded boaties and chill out. Make sure you note the dates in your WBASA calendar and plan to participate when you can.

They also a great way to test your boat out, get some advice about just about anything and of course check out the other boats. Support to launch and retrieve your boat, getting a tow if needed (yes, boats do breakdown) and, best of all the opportunity to get your boat’s photo in the WBASA calendar are all good reasons to join in! If you have participated you should also consider taking on responsibility to organise and manage a CBD.
